Sheffield Group is an active and friendly Group within the Ramblers Association. We welcome all walkers who live or walk in the Sheffield area.

Our walks programme
We have a large and very varied programme of walks, on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Distances range from short 1 – 1 ½ hour walks, through 5 miles or so up to 15 miles, and from relatively easy to strenuous. Many are in the Derbyshire Peak District, but we walk in most directions out of
Sheffield.

We are keen to support sustainable public transport in the countryside, and so nearly all walks are planned to fit in with public transport from Sheffield. The walks programme, found from the Home Page, gives a time for a bus or train leaving Sheffield city centre - usually the Transport Interchange, unless we are using trains or getting a bus or tram somewhere else. If you would like to walk with us, just turn up on the day, or if you prefer get in touch in advance by email or telephone. You will be made very welcome.

You should bring a packed lunch and drinks. Wear stout shoes or boots, and have warm and waterproof clothing.

Other activities
We also do a lot of other things. A number of times each year we have a coach ramble, further away from Sheffield. We also have social events, such as slide lectures during the winter months.

Protecting and trying to improve footpaths and access to countryside in the area is an important part of our work. We have an active Access, Countryside and Rights of Way Committee. If you are interested in helping with its work, please get in touch.
